ISDOS Participants
The ISDOS project must rank as the largest formal university research project in the field of requirements engineering.
The project was not just 'blue skies' thinking, or a collection of abstract academic concepts and ideas using notation that is inaccessible to most people. It was founded on well-structured natural language readable by a wide range of project stakeholders.
The project must also rank as an extensive case study in knowledge transfer between university and industry. This was not primarily arrogant academic knowledge transfer assuming that the educational institution transfers knowledge to industry; it involved extensive two-way transfer in both directions. Universities are best placed to conduct some of the finer aspects of research, but industry is best placed to evaluate usefulness. Many of the organizations listed below tried and used PSL/PSA in real world environments and fed back their suggestions and experiences to the research project. Thus PSL evolved using inputs from many of the organizations. On first sight, PSL may seem to have some very odd features, but some of those feattures were added in direct response to field testing and meeting real needs.
It is important to keep in mind that the uses of PSL/PSA were not merely academic laboratories or classroom exercises; they included full-scale industrial testing.
